Just be honest with him. Tell him you can’t do that sort of thing but reassure him that you still think he’s a wonderful person but you aren’t the right ones for each other. Let him know that he deserves to find happiness as well and that you hope he will. Simple things like that will hopefully ease the pain even a tiny bit.
